KIRKPATRICK TAMES YOUNG PUPS TO CAPTURE 2012 CAROLINA AM CHAMPIONSHIP. NEXT STOP WYNDHAM PRE-QUALIFIER
Charlotte native and amateur veteran, Ron Kirkpatrick, showed the young pups the value of experience and knowledge as he captured the 2012 Carolina AM Championship held July 21st and 22nd at Providence Country Club in Charlotte. Because of Kirkpatrick’s victory he received an automatic berth in the pre-qualifier for the PGA’s Wyndham Championship, to be held August 9th at Forest Oaks Country Club, Greensboro, NC.
Commenting on his victory, Kirkpatrick said, “It’s a dream come true, I am thrilled to have an opportunity to qualify for a PGA golf event. As an amateur, this is a rare opportunity!”
Entering the final round Kirkpatrick was 4 shots behind the leader and in 7th position. He made 3 birdies and one bogey on the front nine to go 1 under and take a 2 shot lead into the back nine. Two more birdies and all pars the rest of the way gave him a 4 stroke victory over second place finisher Taylor Banks.
Banks will also get a berth in the Wyndham pre qualifier as a result of his 2nd place finish.
Charles Humphreys, Director of the Carolina AM, said “What an outstanding rare opportunity for 2 local amateur golfers to have a chance to play in a PGA Tour golf tournament. This doesn’t happen often.”
